Ms Dinh Thi Nam Phuong - Founder of Nam Phuong Foundation state in

After the inauguration of the cable-stayed bridge in Cai Be, Tien Giang province in September, Nam Phuong Foundation continued our mission to “Build-a-Bridge” in Phuong Thinh village, Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province.

Farmers have been worked from the early

Cao Lanh district is a region with poor economic climate and weak infrastructure; therefore, its people still have to face many difficulties in their daily lives, causing major hindrances to trade, health services, and education. Crossing the river using primitive boats day by day, all locals dream about is a stable bridge so that they no longer have to worry for themselves and their families. No longer will there be images of children going to school on primitive boats that can put them in danger anytime.

These eyes, whose living in the wetland, are waiting for a new bridge

Empathising with the difficulties they face, and the simple dream of the locals, especially the children, the Nam Phuong Foundation decided to investigate the location and technical factors, before deciding to begin the Nhan Nghia Bridge project in Phuong Thinh Village, Cao Lanh District, Dong Thap Province. This bridge has cased beam structure, measures 30 metres by 2.5 metres, and costs of about 800 million VND in total – entirely sponsored by the Nam Phuong Foundation and AA Corporation. The completion of Nhan Nghia bridge will bring practical benefits: it will transform connectivity in the region by aiding the daily traffic of hundreds of people going to work, school, and engage in trade. This project will also play an indispensable role in bridging a gap and economising the travel cost between Phuong Thinh Village and Gao Giong in Cao Lanh district, and creates motivation to promote trade, induce investments, as well as develop the local economy. And most importantly, it removes the implicit threat to hundreds of local households given it was the way to the only school for a town of more than 100 children of schooling age.

Ms. Nam Phuong with our sponsors and the government gave the remarkable gifts to the children.

The groundbreaking ceremony of took place on 2nd October, 2016 at Phuong Thinh village, Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province, witnessed by many villagers, representatives from the local government, and ambassadors and supporters of Nam Phuong Foundation. Nhan Nghia Bridge is expected to be finished and ready to put into operation in about 3 months’ time. It also means that, the way to school of students here will be safer and much more convenient for their next school year.

How can we stop loving this lovely face?

So far, the Build-a-Bridge project by the Nam Phuong Foundation has completed and put into use 10 bridges: Khang Linh, Nguyen Van Tiep B, Loi Trinh, Mot Thuoc, Sinh Chanh 1, Sinh Chanh 2, Ngọc Hoang in Tien Giang Province; Tan Hau in Ben Tre province; TĐ 7-15 và Kenh Thuy Tan in Long An province. Keeping up that good work, this bridge at Phuong Thinh village, Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province will definitely bring many positive changes to the face of the countryside and the life of the local people in the very near future.

The founders realised that they can raise money from their small network to build bridges in remote area, so that people no longer have to swim across a river or use unsafe boats. Nam Phuong Foundation is the first charitable foundation founded by students and is granted a permit by Ministry of Interior of Vietnam, permit number 1048/QĐ-BNV.
