“Build-A-Bridge” project held groundbreaking ceremony of Loi Trinh bridge during the approaching days of Year of The Goat 2015.

In the excitement of Lunar New Year 2015, project Build-A-Bridge by Nam Phuong Foundation (NPF) has official started construction of Loi Trinh Bridge, which is located at My Loi A, Cai Be District, Tien Giang Province. This is the 4th bridge since the foundation of the charity group.

My Loi A Commune’s geography comes with the densest system of canals of the entire Cai Be District. The bridge is planned to cross Co Co Channel and connect An Thai Trung, An Thai Dong, My Loi A, My Loi B. The population of the area is 52000. This is a populous area, and the channel itself is wide without any bridges, so people use small ferries on a daily basis, which is dangerous, especially during flood season. During recent years, local government created a ferry dock near the People’s Committee Center using renovated small ferries, thus the safety is not guaranteed.

MC Hoang Oanh and other So You Think You Can Dance contestants who served as NPF’s volunteer ambassador participated in the groundbreaking ceremony.

Since both sides of the channel are populous with difficult terrain, the cost for a bridge is high. The locals and government has been dreaming of a bridge crossing Co Co channel, however financial problem has halted such work. We as NPF understand the demand and has conducted surveys and finally came to the decision: A cable bridge with a length of 60 meters and 2.5 meters wide will be built.

During his speech, Mr. Dinh Ba Khang, Director of NPF shared: “NPF will lend a hand with the people to build a sustainable bridge, so that it will facilitate safe transportation for people and children alike. And only after three months from now, the bridge will bring major changes to the countryside of My Loi A and will sure lower the accident rate among children”.
