Groundbreaking Ceremony of our 5th Bridge

As we continue our mission to deliver more and more stable bridges to underdeveloped areas, ‘Build-a-Bridge’- a Nam Phuong Foundation sponsored project has brought happiness to the people of Ben Tre. Saturday June 13th 2015 witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony of Tan Hau Bridge, located at Tan Trung Commune, Mo Cay Nam District. This is the 1st bridge to be located in Ben Tre but is the 5th project we completed in the Mekong Delta so far.

The current Tan Hau Bridge

Like most of other underdeveloped areas,  the flow of goods and traffic in Mo Cay Nam are limited, and it is difficult for local students of Tan Trung, Ngai Dang, An Dinh commune to get to school using the 20 years old bridge.

The severely degraded bridge has been an obsession for the locals for a long time. During flood season, it becomes a threat at local students’ lives. Despite of the danger, they have to walk on the bridge every single day, as it is the most likely way to school.

Ms Phan Thi Binh – project sponsor delivered keynotes during groundbreaking ceremony

Nam Phuong Foundation has conducted extensive research and survey before making the final decision. The bridge is to be made of reinforced concrete, dimension 25 meters long x 2.5 meters wide, with a total budget of VND 250 million, whereas 70% came from Ms. Phan Thi Binh, a retired official from Hanoi. When it is put into operation, Tau Hau Bridge will definitely be a remarkable change in people’s lives here. Not only would it facilitate traffic to and from Tan Trung to neighboring communes, the way to school for local childrenwould be much safer as the new semester is about to begin.

Groundbreaking of Tan Hau Bridge

As of now, ‘Build-a-Bridge’ by Nam Phuong Foundation has completed and put into use 4 bridges, including Loi Trinh, Mot Thuoc, Sinh Chanh 1, Sinh Chanh 2 and all are located in Cai Be District, Tien Giang. To continue our streak, we deliver Tau Hau Bridge with the hope that it will transform the life and improve living condition for these rural areas. Research for viable locations will be conducted extensively in other parts of Ben Tre, Long An, Tien Giang while another batch of 3 bridges are going to be built with the budget of 1.5 billion VND by the end of this year.
